Born in Miami to southerners from Tennessee and Mississippi, I was the first in my family line to cross the Mason-Dixon line and head north for college. I came out at Smith around the same time that the National Enquirer dubbed Northampton Lesbianville, USA a town of 10,000 Cuddling, Kissing Lesbians. After my master’s degree from the University of Toronto and a few years of teaching English Literature at a prep school, I moved to California to get my PhD in the History of Consciousness at UC-Santa Cruz. I taught Queer Theory and GLBTQ History at Mills College, Macalester College, and UC-Davis. In 2012, I moved to Berlin. Living here has afforded me the chance to explore, and so far I’ve visited Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, the UK, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, and Finland. Now I split my time between Europe and the US. I work as a private educational consultant, specializing in college and graduate school admissions, dissertation coaching, and academic editing.
