One of the best beach destinations that I have ever visited has to be Porto de Galinhas (brutally translated to mean Chicken Port), without a doubt. It’s a perfect destination for all kinds of water sports, including regular surfing, kite-surfing, canoeing, stand-up, snorkeling and scuba diving.
With its northern position, it is fairly close to the equator and maintains a gorgeous average temperature of 27 degrees all year round. Travelling around the town from beach to beach in Porto de Galinhas by bicycle is a real must or, if you are feeling a little lazy, you can hire a buggy with friends for the day and enjoy the sensation of having the wind blowing through your hair.
Food-wise, make sure to try the local snack known as tapioca (which is a kind of empanada or pasty made from tapioca flour). You can buy sweet or savory tapiocas of many kinds from many different places. After a day of lounging around on the beach, it is the perfect way to fill a gaping hole before dinner. The crepes on a stick are really tasty too!
As tribute to my wonderful two weeks in Porto de Galinhas, I share a small oil painting of the small back streets close to the hostel La Rocca at sunset. The painting is in the style of Paul Cezanne, French impressionist painter and a master of the use of color. Enjoy!
